Fearless Friday: Meet Anne

I have often wondered how some people are able to make big changes in their lives while others can’t. I believe, it comes down to a person possessing a certain level of determination and faith. You have to be determined to ‘get up & get out’, all the while maintaining the faith in yourself that you will accomplish your goal.

Anne is the epitome of determination and faith, here is her story…

My name is Anne and 3 years ago I was an overweight couch potato who weighed 344 lbs and was a size 18. I had always wanted to run and do all those things I saw other people doing but didn’t think I had a hope of accomplishing anything especially if it involved moving. I had severe osteoarthritis in my knees and ended up getting knee replacements on both knees 7 years ago. I decided 3 years ago I needed to take my life back and change the way I was loving life.

To make along story short, I underwent weight loss surgery and in the past 2.5 years, I have lost 161 lbs and went from size 26/28-size 10/12. After my surgery I wanted to realize my dream of doing a half marathon. I began training right away as I knew I had a long way to go from sitting on the sofa and unable to walk even half a block. 

I ran/walked my first Niagara international half marathon oct 2017 with a time under 4 hours which for me was a miracle. This past October 2018 I ran/walked my second half marathon and beat last years time by several minutes. I plan on doing the women’s Niagara half marathon on June 2nd.

During these past 2 years, a group of friends and my daughters joined me. Most of these friends are also successful weight loss surgery friends and this past fall, my daughter completed her second  half marathon with me in October just about 5 weeks after giving birth to her 5th child.

I am thankful of my friends and family that have supported me on my journey to health and fitness and look forward to many more half marathons . Even with 2 chrome knees I have been able to get off the sofa and able to compete 2 half marathons in under 4 hours!

 

If you would have told me I would accomplish this 3 years ago, I would have said you were nuts!

So thankful at my second change at life!

You are one amazing woman and we are PROUD OF YOU for setting a goal and working hard to achieve it! We are lucky to have you at our event this year. 🙂
